Metro Food Rescue Fresh Everyday Pantry

Throughout 2026, Metro Food Rescue has been busy launching Fresh Everyday Pantries at affordable residence buildings. The Fresh Everyday Pantries provide free everyday access to fresh fruits, vegetables, bread and other food items for residents. The pantry is conveniently located inside the building and includes a refrigerator, shelves, and informational resources. They are restocked on a regular schedule to ensure there is always fresh food available for people who need it. This two-year pilot program, funded by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, runs through September 2027 and will support the launch and running of 8-10 Fresh Everyday Pantries.

Metro Food Rescue is on the look-out for additional sites that would be a good fit for this program. Some of the basic requirements include:

• Residential building(s) with 80-200 units or community centers serving under-resourced communities

• Focus on apartment buildings or complexes with affordable housing units

• Building is able to provide a community-accessible space for the pantry that is large enough for, at minimum, a 2-section refrigerator and simple shelving, with access to at least two working 3-pronged electrical outlets
