Meet the Team

  • Chad Techner

    FOUNDER and CEO

I started Metro Food Rescue with a simple goal, to WASTE LESS & FEED MORE.. The fact that we waste 40% of our food while 1 in 5 kids don't have enough to eat made me know I needed to be a part of the solution.  As the father of 4 young kids I can't imagine the pain of not knowing how I would feed them their next meal.  I feel so fortunate to be able to do this work and want to thank all of our supporters who make this work possible.

  • Brandon Herman

    Operations Manager and Volunteer Coordinator

Working at Metro Food Rescue is both a privilege and an honor. Having started as a driver and working my way through various roles, I have gotten to see the massive impact that Metro Food Rescue makes in supporting local communities. I consider myself lucky to get to say that I make a difference fighting food insecurity throughout Southeast Michigan through my work at Metro Food Rescue.

“Hunger is not an issue of charity. It is an issue of justice”

  • Sean Monaghan

    Metro Driver

“The ink bottle has nothing to hide from the pen”

I really enjoy connecting with all communities throughout Southeast Michigan and helping our food system make a little bit more sense. My day-to-day conversations with pantry-goers and volunteers remind me of how important it is to keep fighting for food equality on all scales. My daily experiences at this job inform my view that the world will not overcome our current adversities until we critically analyze our relationships between socioeconomic class and our food system.

  • Diego Perez-Cuellar

    Metro Driver

As a musician/composer, I get to express myself through sound. As an alpine mountaineer, I get to climb high and see the world. As a teacher, I get the chance to put my vision within the youth. As Diego working with Metro Food Rescue, I get to do a job that should not exist... If social classes and systems were corrected everyone would be fed without possible cause for surplus and ultimately hunger. My mission at this job is to make it obsolete, sounds Utopian but we can do it, LET'S GO METRO FOOD RESCUE!"

  • Mack Ellis

    Metro Driver

Besides the incredible impact our organization has on reducing food waste and keeping our neighbors fed, working at Metro Food Rescue means that I get to spend my day moving, flex my problem solving skills, and get to know people in the community who have the same values I do.
